The air is warm, and, the closer you get to the ground, the more the scents engulf you: exotic spices and foods, incense, and also some less savory ones like sweat and animal offal. The sounds swarm closer too: conversation, animal grunts and howls, singing, yelling...
Upon exiting the tower, the new arrivals to Sunholly are swarmed by children begging for money, for food, offering sweets and trinkets for sale. There are ramshackle stalls set up for impromptu (and possibly illegal) vendors but there's also a clear artery leading into the noise and the scents. It's where most of the people are heading.
The main artery does, in fact, feed out into a bustling and HUGE merchant district: street performers dance and sing and play instruments; storefronts line the perimeter and food stalls & carts are scattered about. There's a fountain in a circular courtyard where people gather for a quick way to wet their lips in the heat while they gossip. Other streets branch off of the courtyard like spokes from a wheel, though this main artery continues on the opposite side of the courtyard.
The northwest corner of Sunholly City is the slaver quarter, and the Valiant crew largely avoids it; if one must go there, you never go alone.
