Timeline
Terminology Notes: As there are a few dates well back into prehistory, some less commonly known notations are used. "Ma" stands for "megaannus" (or "megannus") and is a unit of time equal to one million years. Similarly, "ka" (kiloannus/kilannus) is a unit of time equal to one thousand years. Thus "15 Ma" should be read as "15 million years ago". Ga is "gigaannus", or one billion years ago.
- c. 4.57 Ga - Formation of the Earth
- c. 3.57 Ga - Abiogensis occurs, creating the first lifeforms and, with them, the first Fey.
- no later than 15 Ma -
- The first embodiment of Death is created by the Powers That Be
- The current embodiment of Death is created to replace the flawed first version
- The first Death has become part of Earth's existence and cannot be removed. He will later become The Master of the vampire race
- c. 800 ka - The First of the Firstborn accepts The Master's offer of eternal youth and is turned; over the years, he will lose his vitality and his perfect looks as the imbalance of Cain's blood in him malforms him
- c. 160 ka - Abrihet, Second of the Firstborn, is turned. She is the oldest surviving vampire extant in the world
- c. 158 ka - The First of the Firstborn kills himself, unable to stand his continuing deterioration
- c. 12 ka - Third of the Firstborn turned
- c. 10 ka - The Fey start paying attention to the threat that vampires can pose to living beings
- c. 8 ka - The Third Firstborn is killed by a Hunter
- c. 4000 BCE - Fey Schism: The Fey's disagreement over what to do about the existence of vampires (leave them be vs. attempt to eradicate them) becomes volatile; the faction in favor of hunting vampires splinters off and focuses their powers on offensive abilities
- c. 3500 BCE - The splintered Fey group launch an attack on The Master and fail to eradicate Him, largely because He is too integral to the fabric of the world now. In their attempt, they unleash so much magic that they very nearly permanently deplete their resources. Between this massive undertaking and the last 500 years spent focusing on specific magics, they are now significantly less powerful than their Fey cousins and also (unsettlingly for them) mortal. This splinter group will become the progenitors of the Witches
- c. 3450-3300 BCE - Some Witches attempt to restore some of the power that they lost in their fight against The Master. Through various magical ceremonies, they attempt to fuse themselves with animals of power, strength, speed, or wisdom, so that they will be better able to fight vampires. These rituals result in the first weres
- 1663 BCE -
- Caitlin O'Leary arrives in Minoan Crete on the same day Ariastre is born
- Caitlin becomes a vampire (~one month later), and thus the Fourth of the Firstborn
- 1655 BCE - Ariastre enters the temple
- 1653 BCE - Kairos is born
- 1651 BCE - Ariastre glimpses "the Lady of Cythera", Goddess of Beauty, at a ritual, unaware that it's Caitlin
- 1636 BCE -
- King Minos II ascends to the throne of Knossus (midwinter)
- Ariastre becomes High Priestess of the Knossus Temple
- 1630 BCE - Kairos becomes a vampire (Fifth of the Firstborn)
- 1629 BCE - Ariastre dies while fleeing from Kairos
- c. 1200 CE - Temulin dies and is turned by Cain, becoming the Sixth Firstborn
- 1453 CE - Constantine XI Palaiologos is turned into a vampire shortly before the fall of Constantinople. His eventual whereabouts are still unknown. Had it not been for the interference of Caitlin's time travel, Constantine XI would've been a Firstborn (and the representative of Wrath).
- 1699 CE - The Seventh of the Firstborn, a cousin of the last king of the Itza Maya, dies and is turned by Cain
- 1945 CE - Athanasia, Secondborn and Childe of Abrihet, reveals the existence of Nazi vampire experiments to Allied Forces. This leads directly to the attack on and liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, as well as to various involved governments knowing of the existence of vampires
- 1946 CE -
- With World War II now over, vampirekind (spurred on by Athanasia and Abrihet) enter talks with the various world governments about their desire to live peacefully alongside humankind
- Witches come forward when they realize vampires are speaking to those in secular power. They also wish only to be known to the local governments and not to be known more widely
- 1948-1952 CE - The various DoVE-type entities come into being (Ireland's OMR is the first, in '48) in most of the First World countries. America's DoVE, usually considered the exemplar, starts up 1 January 1950. For the time being, each of these offices remains largely secret
- 1968 CE - The White House announces the existence of vampires to the American public and promises that they are in peaceful negotiations to secure "an equitable arrangement for all American citizens, alive or otherwise".
- 1970 CE - DoVE "officially" opens on 1 January and is quickly hailed as an unusual example of government working efficiently and getting it right
- 1985 CE - Caitlin O'Leary born
- 1989 CE - Tavis O'Leary born
- 2012 CE - Caitlin O'Leary meets Kairos
- 2014 CE -
- Caitlin marries Kairos, originally keeping her maiden name
- Caitlin trips and falls into a rip in time and goes back to 1663 BCE (~a few months later)
- Caitlin returns to Kairos (almost immediately after he sees her disappear); she ends up changing her surname to "Kineso" (based on an old pronounciation of "Knossus")
