1) No Shadow-Men.  Innkeeper takes a liking to Varden and tries to seduce him with sorcery, then causes a rockslide to keep him from leaving town, killing and injuring other people in the town in the process.  Jade wakes him up from the sorcery, the innkeeper tries to kill her, and they end up having to either get the innkeeper arrested/killed.

2) They travel on, the two of them fighting with each other about the incidents in the last town.  When they stop for the night at a roadside inn, Jade takes watch.  They're attacked in the night by shadow-men, and Jade fights them.  There are a lot of them, and they're very skilled, so at some point she shifts to fight them, thus revealing herself as a weretiger.  They capture her and hold her in a cage with silver bars - the bars burn and weaken her.  Varden awakes during the fight and sees them take her away, but he gets a nasty hit on the head from behind which knocks him out.
He goes through her stuff at the inn, finds the crystal Kiran gave her and takes it with him, then tracks her down and fights the remaining shadow-men and frees Jade from the cage.  He gets as far as he can before his own silver poisoning weakens him too much and uses the crystal to try and get ahold of Kiran.
Kiran shows up and uses his sorcery to save Jade and help Varden.  She's very weak and it'll take days for her to recover; Kiran comes back and forth as he can, but mostly, it's Varden taking care of her.  She thanks him for saving her, and he lays the credit at Kiran's feet, but she insists that he deserves the credit and thus the rift between them caused by the crazy innkeeper lady is healed.
