Tempest Rages:First Sightings:Part IV - Berrett "" ========================================================== Across the plains of Coulo came a storm born of heavenly strife. The gods knew it was coming; they had seen the signs in their compatriot as the madness crept upon him. They had warned me, but it was effectively useless; I could do nothing without Them. Somewhere, We turned to face that unvoiced cry that tore at our souls, even if We could not see it. In Couloton, Keraida saw what I could not. In Invaeda, Trena felt the pull as well, and prepared to welcome us. In the Great City, Myre was armed with the knowledge of his researches to inform us. I suppose I could have asked the gods myself, but they wouldn't likely have answered me. Besides, Myre's books were his only true friends, near as I could tell. He had a certain affection for Us, well, for most of Us. He'd never liked me, but had grown into a certain tolerance over time. He was the only one I could safely confide in, and I appreciated that. Leaving him to his libraries was the only real way I could repay him. He'd never seemed that interested in women, spirits, coin or good times. These were my main currencies when dealing with others, unless they were women themselves, in which case, I had been known to have a certain amount of charm and persuasion at my command. But Myre was a mystery; how could I show my gratitude for his silence, his allowance of my confessions to him. The thought of Our upcoming battle had always scared me. Now that the storm was here, I had no time to be scared. No room in my brain for it. The god's shrieks and howlings, which others heard as thunder or saw as lightning, reverberated through my bones, shook my marrow. It was hard to sleep with the insane cacophony ringing through my blood.
