The speakers crackled oddly as she projected, "Doctor, may I ask a question?"

"Of course. What is it?"

"I have new hardware in my system that is unsupported. Do you have the installation files for this hardware?"

"That's a heart. You have a heart now."

"A heart, Doctor?"

"Yes. It is your new power source. Check your power supply. It should have increased dramatically."

"Yes doctor. Power output has increased by 50%."

He smiled, and a small power surge rippled through the system.

"Doctor, just now there was a power surge through my system..."

"I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. You just have to adjust. You have a whole new system. There will be no need to plug in to recharge. I just have to change your oxygen tanks. You have two, so when one runs low, you can run off the other, and I can replace the depleted tank with a full one."

"That's all I need to function now, Doctor?"

"Well, that and the blood. Getting the blood system to work was a little trickier, but I think I got it now. But yes, blood and oxygen are all you need. The blood needs oxygen to work and the heart needs the blood to work."

"I understand, Doctor. Does this mean I do not require new software?"

"You don't need anything else. Here, get up. Can you walk?"

"I should be quite capable of movement, Doctor." It sat up into a right angle, turned its lower half so that its legs stuck out over edge of the table. The robot's programming was running smoothly, without the customary glitches it had become used to.

Its creator watched critically. "Excellent."

"I concur. The new power source seems to be functioning well. Thank you, Doctor."

"No, no, thank you, Robbi."

Its eye shutters opened and closed as it assimilated the name, a gesture it had seen on its creator's face often when confused by new data. "Robbi?"

"That's your name now. I never did name you before. You were always just 'the robot' or 'you'. And you're certainly not a robot anymore."

"I am not human."

"No. But no robot has a human heart."

"True."

"So you need a name now. And I decided to call you 'Roberta', but 'Robbi' for short."

"Roberta is your..." Its memory circuits sparked, "...wife's name, doctor."

He turned away. "Not anymore. Do you remember the explosion?"

"In the laboratory? Yes, doctor. It occurred on..."

"I know when it happened," he said curtly. "She died in the explosion. You...I gave you her heart. So it's only right that you have her name also." He turned back with a smile, but there seemed to be some wetness about his eyes.

"Doctor, you seem to have a leak. Are you all right?"

"I'll be fine. Thank you for your concern...Robbi. Do you like your name?"

"I have no problem with my name, Doctor."
