NORMAL SKILLS (cooking, shooting, etc.):Shooting (bow & arrow), haggling, wall-climbing, rock-climbing, basic cooking: you know, ADVENTURING STUFF.
SPECIAL ABILITIES:
MAGICAL/NON-NORMAL POWERS: Shapeshifting: fox form, falcon form, and mouse form. Can shift his human attributes around a bit (make himself taller/shorter, gain/lose weight, longer/shorter legs and arms, different hair color/length, etc.) but cannot entirely change what he looks like: CANNOT change his eyes, which will always be the far-too-green-to-be-normal-human color they are. Also CANNOT become female. Shifting his attributes around takes more energy to maintain than his normal human form or any of his animal forms, so it's generally only done for short periods of time.

NOTES

Lore's mother is a ke'mari (shapeshifter), a race of humanoids that are much more in tune with nature. A full-blooded ke'mari can take any form he or she likes, can shift to become the other sex, can look or sound like anyone they know, as well as any of the various animal forms. Ke'mari can also heal through their attunement with nature and work other forms of nature-based magic.

Lore has the capability to learn some basic healing and magics but never cared to, so too bad (with one exception, noted below). And he can only take the 3 full forms (a red fox with a black tipped tail and black feet, a falcon, and a brown field mouse). He can shift his own attributes around a bit, but not for long, and, unlike his mother, he is incapable of hiding his eye color, which gives away the secret of his blood to those who know what ke'mari eyes look like (which, fortunately, is not many, as shapeshifters are considered infernospawn, i.e., demons).

Lore's father is a traveling merchant. He didn't get to see him much when he was growing up, and so he started traveling with him as soon as his father deemed him old enough. He's seen a lot of the world and was hungry to see more. He registered with the Adventurers' Club when he was 16 and never looked back.

He's scaled mountains, explored tombs, nearly died a dozen times to traps and savages and poisonous creatures. He LOVES it. He's started gathering quite the reputation, and makes extra money by selling tales of his exploits to bards. They increase his outlandish reputation and, in turn, get an exciting new tale to sing to their customers. Through bardic license and embellishment, he's known to have done all manner of impossible tasks. He shrugs and smiles mysteriously if anyone asks if it's all TRUE. And, of course, finding rare, magical, legendary artifacts to bring back helps prove that he does at least SOME of what the stories say. It also keeps him and his family in quite comfortable circumstances.

He's also not above using the tales of his dashing and heroic adventures to get laid; Lore has a well-deserved reputation as a womanizer. He would say that women are honored to have been charmed and seduced by him, to spend even a single night in his arms! This is possibly true, in some cases, but the vast majority are rather upset (and some of them have brothers and fathers who are more than just "upset") with his love-'em-and-leave-'em actions.

NOTE: Ke'mari powers fade in the presence of cold iron; for a half-blood like Lore, this means that cold iron on or about his person effectively negates his powers. Steel doesn't seem to give the same problem, probably because the iron is adulterated heavily.

Lore loves the entire lifestyle and concept of being an Adventurer, and he does everything he can to live up to it. He acts as if he were an actor with a constant audience. This means that he will always do whatever is the MOST DRAMATIC, not what is necessarily the smartest thing to do. Loud and flashy entrances, monologuing, billowing capes, all of that. (**He is unaware of it, but it is a small bit of magic he unwittingly learned: he can call up a small wind to make his cape billow dramatically whenever he wants, for however long he wants (though if it went on for hours, it'd be awfully draining).)

Given the prejudice against ke'mari, this means that Lore does his DAMNEDEST not to shift if he can help it, despite the fact that he's almost always alone on his adventures. If he does have to shift, he leaves those bits out of the stories he tells the bards, coming up with alternate explanations for how he was able to get out of such tight spots as a perfectly normal human. He'd LOVE to be able to shift more often, to be able to include that in the stories, but...well, it is what it is.

When Lore shifts, his clothes and equipment do NOT shift with him. A fullblooded ke'mari could make themselves appear clothed when they shifted back to human form, but Lore is incapable of this, which means he'll be stark naked when he becomes a human again (which is his default form). He was raised with the more permissive ke'mari attitudes on nudity but also knows that regular human society doesn't share them; thus being naked tends to be a frustration to him until he can get back to his clothes. HE doesn't mind it, but everyone else would pitch fit, SO FINE. (Of course, if there's a young lady or two around, he might pose a bit first, for their enjoyment, naturally.)

Application:

Name: Syloren "Lore" Rialis
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Half-human, half-ke'mari (shapeshifter)

Appearance:

5'8", 145 lbs., swarthy skin, runner's build, shoulder-length crayon red hair (usually left loose), and VIBRANT green eyes. They almost glow. When he appears on Isnit, he's wearing a green tunic, a white vest embroidered with gold thread, a vibrantly multi-colored kerchief around his neck, a black leather belt with a silver buckle, chocolate brown leather pants, and lighter brown leather boots that come up to his knees. He has a leather pack on his back and twin daggers, hilted in silver, on his hips (hung off the belt).

Personality:

Lore Rialis is a lecherous, melodramatic fame-seeker and daredevil. He's clever more than smart, quick more than strong. He doesn't like to waste time with unnecessary things like "talking" or "strategizing", and he will always, always, ALWAYS do whatever is the MOST DRAMATIC, not what is necessarily the smartest thing to do.

Despite being someone supremely self-interested, Lore has a generally kind heart. He wants to be the HERO, not the villain, after all. He may accidentally make things worse in his quest for the spotlight and the drama, but he will also work hard to make things right again. At the end of the day, having Lore on your side (while exasperating) is usually not a bad thing (and is far better than having him against you - all...that...monologuing...).

History:

Notes

Souter: Souter's nearing 30 and Lore thinks he is the MOST BORING MAN EVER, but with the most adorable children. Souter turned his back on the shifter part of his heritage entirely after an incident when he was a child when a hunter nearly killed him when he was in fox form. It scared him badly, and so now he pretends to be only human. He became a merchant, just like Father, married a sweet woman, and has a pack of three cute and usually obedient children (until Lore gets ahold of them and incites them to mischief). He grouses about when Lore will grow up and settle down, but secretly, he's proud (and a little jealous) of him.

Doreina: A headstrong 18, Doreina has embraced her shifter nature more than either of her older siblings. She has spent a lot of time with the ke'mari and has learned to heal, to shift more effectively, and even do some more offensive spellcasting. Her abilities will never be as good as a fullblood, of course, but she works hard to make up for that shortcoming. She lives off the land, hunting and gathering, making do with what she can. Somehow, she's never far from her father, following along in parallel and finding ke'mari villages along the way to continue learning about her heritage.
