What's currently going on with MJ's shinies "in the background", as it were. I do keep mental track of these things, so even if you don't see a shiny being RP'd much, I haven't forgotten about them!

As of November 3, 2012:

• Aloysius: Al would still prefer to be by MJ's side (or in MJ's backpack) more often than not, but she keeps going and doing DANGEROUS things. Al's not a coward, but he is insecure; he feels sure he'll fail MJ, and is afraid he'll do so at a critical juncture that could be life-threatening to either/both of them. Far better that she have someone like Severa with her, and in the meantime, he'll hang out back at home with Dr. Keyes's Shafa, most of whom have proven to be quite nice. However, when she's out and about doing normal tasks, like going to the library or quick shopping trips to Needle Street, Al still travels with her via backpack. He still sleeps in his basket on the floor at the foot of her bed. He was initially uneasy about having a large carnivore (Grata) sleeping near him, but he quickly got used to her, and even seems to quite like the Aisig.
• Scavenai: Scavenai is growing rapidly, as young Gryphons do. He is still working on his reading (and is getting quite good!), and has the scrap-sorting project that MJ assigned him: sorting out the giant piles of scrap in Dr. Keyes's backyard. He often finds things that neither MJ nor Dr. Keyes wish to keep, and he gives them to Peter to sell. In turn, he gets a (small) cut of the profits. He's quite proud of this. Scavenai still sleeps on the rug to the right of MJ's bed (as you look at it from the foot); he sleeps closest to her head.
• Peter: Peter has set up shop with Kit and Kat, two of Dr. Keyes's Tzingani, renting a stall on Needle Street. They sell the knick-knacks and scrap bits that Scavenai finds on a daily basis. There's a good market in scrap, surprisingly, as well as in interesting doodads. Peter sometimes feels the need to wander off and find something more interesting to do though; sure, the stall is important, but there's so much out there to explore and see that sometimes Peter feels a bit cramped. He usually curls up on MJ's bed, behind the bend in her knees (she usually sleeps on her side). Sometimes he attempts to sleep atop Scavenai; he's smart enough not to try this trick with Severa.
• Severa: Severa has essentially become The Head Shiny In Charge. She defers a bit to Noyissa, but not much, as the Dragon is still just a hatchling, and Severa was here first (well, before Noyissa, anyway). Severa goes where MJ goes almost always, and is very concerned (as all the shinies are) about MJ's increasing workload and stress. Severa is one of the three Protectorate shinies. She sleeps on the rug next to MJ's bed, closer to MJ's feet (so, right next to Scavenai).
• Noyissa: Noyissa currently lives in the backyard, though she flits out to the forests on a regular basis and sometimes sleeps out there, especially when it rains. She likes to be close though, to watch over MJ, but they all know that, as she grows, she'll be too big for the backyard soon. She's searching for a good place to settle in the forest and, like Severa, frets over MJ. Noyissa is one of the three Protectorate shinies.
• Dymphna: Dymphna follows MJ about the house, but usually stays home when she goes out, though she does fancy the occasional trip to Needle Street or the inn. She sleeps at the foot of MJ's bed, long tail trailing off the side. She used to try to give MJ sexy and/or romantic dreams, but MJ'd wake up annoyed, so now she tries to keep her Bonded's dreams light and sunshiney and happy. She is very worried about her beloved MJ, but isn't sure what to do about it.
• Damon: Damon perches on the wireframe headboard of MJ's bed, the better to watch over her while she sleeps. He largely lets Dymphna craft MJ's dreams and only swoops in when things go bad or when nightmares threaten, to steer her mind back to restful, happy dreams. Sometimes he helps Dymphna out, and sometimes he takes over entirely to give his fellow Nocturne a break, but mostly he watches and guides. Damon is one of the three Protectorate shinies.
• Grata: Still getting her paws under her in her new home. She's pleased to discover that one of her bondmates is another Barghest, and that there are three more Barghests (one of them an Aisig!) in the house. Though she is not formally a part of the Protectorate, she is already acting as a sort of advisor to Severa; Grata did not specifically swear to Protect MJ, but it is her primary concern. Still, she leaves the house often to see to her other duty of guiding lost souls (and to give MJ more time to get used to/forgive her). When she's not doing that, she attempts to temper Severa's strident concern. She sleeps at the foot of the bed, between Al's basket and the main heating pipe (her older bones appreciate the extra warmth).

The Protectorate: The Protectorate was created by Severa when she noticed a certain...kinship the three of them had. All shinies want to protect their Bonded, as is natural and right, but the three of them - Severa, Noyissa, and Damon - specifically swore to protect MJ in some way when they became hers. That is their main "duty", as it were, and the other shinies, though still worried about MJ's health as she buries herself in work and then ends up over her head in stressful bondings, have ceded protective duties to the three of them (not the least because they are three very fearful creatures).

• Severa - Protector of MJ's Body
• Noyissa - Protector of MJ's Heart
• Damon - Protector of MJ's Mind

Currently, Damon's area is the one that's receiving the most worry. MJ is stressing herself out, and bondings like the Nocturne one (for which Damon feels (not without reason) acutely responsible) have not been helping. She was working a lot before the Nocturne bonding; afterwards, she increased her workload tremendously. She is either working or studying most days, even on her days off (when she's not getting into trouble); her shinies try to get her out of Dr. Keyes's house but this doesn't often work.

However, the stress will wear down her body over time, so Severa also feels she has work to do. And Damon and Dymphna have relayed to Noyissa the events of the Nocturnes bonding and certain...revelations this has brought to them. MJ is denying her heart in a fashion that they all know will end poorly. She doesn't take well to being pushed on the matter, and so Noyissa waits patiently; she spends most of her time with MJ shoring up the girl's flagging confidence, and doesn't try to lecture her on how much she's working (unlike the other 6 shinies - Grata is also an exception to this). She hopes that this will mean MJ will turn to her (Noyissa) when the feces finally hits the ventilator. Severa's twigged to Noyissa's plan and supports it, primarily by nagging MJ to stop working so much. It drives MJ away a bit, but the Gleidh will not impinge on Noyissa's vow: it is to her to protect MJ's heart, not Severa (and meddling with Dragons is never a good idea, even for a Barghest).

Shinies Wishlist

These are ranked amongst their various species from Most Wanted (highest on the list) to Least Wanted (lowest). The species themselves are ranked the same way. If I don't want it at all, it ain't even gonna show up.

Personality-wise, I really, really, REALLY do not want any evil-type Shinies for MJ, or those that would seek to harm others for pleasure or sport (instead of acting defensively/protecting another, for example). Mischevious critters are welcome, and they don't all have to be Sunshine & Rainbows types, but anything that actively seeks to do evil/harm isn't something I see bonding to a person like MJ. I take her RP very seriously, and that includes who/what she bonds with.

Epolos

Note: MJ is looking for something equivalent to a draft or work horse, that CAN be ridden if need be but would usually be pulling carts and the like. However, anything sweet and loyal enough can worm its way into her heart pretty easily. Bravery would be useful though; there are an AWFUL LOT of explosions at Dr. Keyes's.
